fairy042OUR MISSION

Dream the Impossible Dream Organisation (DIDO) was founded in Johannesburg, on Mother’s Day 2008, by Dido Panagiotopoulos.

The mission of DIDO is to help ordinary people realize extraordinary dreams by providing support (physical, emotional and financial) from philanthropists and corporates to help make a dream, a reality.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Everything starts with a dream! On Mother’s Day 2008, DIDO was born, as a response to trying to find sponsorship to assist her good friends (one of whom has Multiple Sclerosis and the other, Cystic Fibrosis) to realize their dream of climbing Mt Kilimanjaro (the highest mountain on the African continent) in September. In her pursuit to help her friends climb Kilimanjaro, Dido realised that there were in fact no organisations that help ordinary people realize extraordinary dreams... and so DIDO was born!

KEY POINTS

DIDO is a South African wish-granting organisation for ordinary people (over 18 years of age) who have extraordinary dreams.

DIDO endeavours to solicit help from philanthropists, corporates and any other organisations and individuals who have the interest and capacity to help ordinary people achieve extraordinary dreams. DIDO does not receive government funding or grants.

In “brokering dreams”, DIDO will draw up a contract between the benefactor/ sponsor and the dreamer/ recipient which will specify the terms of the agreement.

The contractual agreement will be a two-way agreement in which the benefactor/ sponsor can request certain duties, or the achievement of certain goals by the recipient (for example, the dreamer may have to agree to be used in marketing and advertising, or to do motivational talks or public promotions or to achieve certain goals, en route to realizing the big dream).

DIDO in addition, endeavours to put dreamers in touch with charities and non-profit organisations where the dreamer wishes to raise funds for such a non-profit organisation (as part of achieving his/her extraordinary dream).

DIDO aims at motivating and inspiring people to achieve the impossible dream and/or to be part of the process of realizing a dream. It is not just the dreamers, it is everyone who gets involved in the dream process, who LIVE the dream!

DIDO is about personal, active and reciprocal involvement in people, and in the process of realizing a dream - it is about achievement, fulfillment and affirmation. Rather than giving charity/donations to the downtrodden, deprived or disabled this is about helping ordinary upbeat people achieve extraordinary goals.

DIDO will consider individuals or groups with a dream, based both on how motivated and goal-oriented they are, and how important their extraordinary dream is to them. Dreamers would not be able to realize a final dream without some form of assistance, whether it be  practical, physical, emotional or financial.

Although donations to DIDO would be gratefully accepted, DIDO prefers to receive more practical help and ‘hands-on’ involvement for the Dreamers than simply money. Links will be provided, where our Dreamer has a charity drive as an adjunct to realizing a dream (so that donations can be made directly to the Non-Profit Organisation or charity which the Dreamer has nominated).

DIDO endeavours to keep administrative and running costs to a minimum, and any payments to staff or suppliers will be a fair but reasonable amount for the work rendered, or to cover expenses.     DIDO, for now, is not yet registered as a non-profit organization because of the bureaucratic red tape and time it would require to fulfill the terms of the NPO Act (which for example requires at least 6 office bearers and monthly management meetings). DIDO will however be run in accordance with transparent, judicious, and honest business practice.
